As a home seller, yes, you “can” be at home during showings, but the real question is, should you?
It’s your house after, and you’re the one who decides what’s best for your situation. When it comes to selling your home, this is a highly personal decision, and it can be very emotional, too. While homebuyers are viewing your home during showings, they’ll be picturing themselves living there, which means they’ll share many personal opinions. Sometimes, off-the-cuff comments about paint or furnishing choices can be distasteful or rude. What if the potential buyer has a style viewpoint opposite to yours? It’s natural to want to pass your home on to someone who loves it just as much as you do, but chances are even someone who loves the space may have a different decorating taste.
Another way to consider this is from the buyer’s perspective. When purchasing a home, the new owner wants it to feel like it’s their home; meeting the seller during the showing can introduce a barrier to a buyer freely picturing themselves living in there. While sometimes buyers will ask about the property’s history, most view purchasing their home as entering a new era and making a fresh start.
All these reasons and more are why when you work with us to sell your home, we’re there for your showings, so you don’t have to be. Of course, if you want to be there for showings, you can be, but the choice is always yours.
